University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our paediatric respiratory team at Southampton Children's Hospital.

The successful candidate will join our established team of 7 consultants alongside our large respiratory MDT and would suit someone with an interest in CF and suppurative lung disease.

The main clinical duties will be to provide Consultant of the week service weeks (1 in 6) alongside CF, bronchiectasis and general respiratory outpatient clinics.

This will initially be an 8 PA post, with the potential to increase to 10 PAs once the successful candidate was in post. This is a permanent contract.

Job responsibilities

About our Paediatric Respiratory service:Our Service covers a population of 3.5 million. It provides inpatient and outpatient treatment for a full range of respiratory problems, for children of all ages. There is a 15-bedded PICU and a 6-bedded PHDU alongside approximately 120 paediatric beds.

We work closely with all paediatric subspecialty services at the Childrens Hospital, in particular cardiology, ENT, neurology, neonatology, oncology and surgical specialties alongside regular input into patients on PICU. The respiratory team regularly receives referrals from across all subspecialties both on an inpatient and outpatient basis, as well as from our regional DGH centres. The service is supported by a comprehensive diagnostic radiology and a physiology service.

The Respiratory Service includes a large regional Cystic Fibrosis Network which functions on a hub and spoke format with 10 regional hospitals and currently looks after over 230 patients. We have a large cohort of over 250 children on LTV, supported by a dedicated LTV MDT. We have a large sleep service, undertaking and report on over 1400 sleep studies per annum. We are one of only 4 Highly Specialized Service commissioned PCD centres in England and deliver the diagnostic and management Service for children in the South and South-West of the Country. We also have a newly established regional paediatric bronchiectasis clinic. In addition, we provide specialist MDT clinics in asthma and allergy, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and tracheoesophageal fistula, alongside general respiratory clinics incorporating a wide range of tertiary respiratory cases

The UHS paediatric respiratory consultant body forms part of an extensive multidisciplinary team including specialist nurses, physiotherapists, sleep physiologists, dietitians, speech and language therapists, psychologists and social worker all of whom have dedicated time for the respiratory, cystic fibrosis and LTV services. The multidisciplinary teams for long term ventilation, sleep, complex airways, spinal surgery, primary ciliary dyskinesia and cystic fibrosis meet regularly to discuss both clinical cases and service developments.

The team is also actively involved in a wide range of research activities particularly in relation to CF, sleep disordered breathing, asthma and allergy, primary ciliary dyskinesia.Responsibilities:

- Consultant of week service weeks alongside weekend ward rounds for respiratory inpatient's including those on PICU and PHDU (on a 1 in 6 basis)- Liaison with other hospitals in the region to provide specialist advice and to ensure children receive timely and appropriate treatment- Undertake cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis and general paediatric respiratory clinics- In addition there is the potential to undertake outreach clinics across our network for children with cystic fibrosis and LTV
