Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for a post-CCT clinical fellow with a specialist interest in adult neuromuscular disease, to focus on further specialist clinical training and research experience.

The post is for a 12-month period, potentially extendable to 24 months.The successful applicant will join the Wessex Regional Muscle And Nerve Service (WERMANS), which serves a catchment area of 3 million in the South of England, and is increasing its research activities.

By the end of the training Fellows will meet the competencies agreed by the British Myology Society for UK Clinical Neuromuscular Fellowships and those agreed for the European Neuromuscular Fellowship Core Curriculum.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The candidate will be working with colleagues in the Wessex Regional Muscle And Nerve Service (WERMANS), acquiring skills in investigating and managing patients with myopathies, neuropathies and disorders of the neuromuscular junction, with additional relevant training in neurophysiology, neuropathology and rehabilitation.

The applicant will attend specialist neuromuscular clinics, help with in-hospital care of patients, participate in audit and service improvement. There will be opportunities for research and involvement in supervision of clinical trials of novel treatments in neuromuscular disease.

In addition, the successful applicant will provide a weekly general neurology clinic.

There will be a requirement to participate in the on-call specialist registrar rota (1:9 or less frequently) when required.

This will support an on-call neurology rota.

This post requires full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), and completion of CCT or equivalent.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post.

The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular.

Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)
