Main duties of the job
We are delighted to invite a customer-focused, friendly and enthusiastic individual to join the Medical Examiner Southampton team to deliver a now statutory requirement of review following death.
This developing service is now statutory and will allow you to work closely with both hospital and community clinicians to ensure robust scrutiny and great communication at this time of great importance for families.

Job responsibilities
To work alongside the medical examiners and the other MEOs in order to facilitate timely and effective review of cases.
To act as an intermediary voice between the bereaved, clinicians and bereavement service
To establish and resolve any concerns relating to a patients death. Work with medical examiners to aid them in their responsibility for overseeing the death certification process for all deceased patients in both hospital and community settings.
Provide preliminary scrutiny and accurate documentation to aid and establish the cause of death
You are a remote customer-facing service and require excellent communication and interpersonal skills
You should have an inquiring mind and attention to detail.
You must be empathetic, professional reliable and proficient in using IT systems
role is 8.30-4.30 and Monday to Friday (no weekends or BH)

Essential
- Educated to Batchelor's degree level or higher with a working knowledge in related field.
- A commitment to life-long learning and undertaking personal development opportunities.
- The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior medical and nursing staff and the recently bereaved.
Desirable
- Completed e-learning MEO core training modules prior to starting in the post
Previous or relevant experience necessary
Essential
- Experience of working with the patient safety team, bereavement care team or within the mortality review process.
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting with multi-disciplinary teams across organisational boundaries.
- Knowledge of the Coroner & Justice Act 2009 with specific reference to the medical examiner system.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the special requirements of various faith groups and respect for equality and diversity of issues around formalities following a death
- Experience of working with people in sensitive and emotional situations.
