Main duties of the job

At University Hospital Southampton we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Senior Pharmacy Support Worker to join our developing Technical Services team.Our team offers a wide variety of services including compounding Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) for neo-nates, paediatrics, oncology, critical care and intestinal failure patients, using automated compounders and aseptic technique.Our CIVAs service produces doses that are compounded for neo-nates, paediatrics, oncology, critical care, and an expanding OPAT service.Working closely with our service users, including specialist doctors, pharmacists and nurses, you will be expected to contribute to good stock production, rotation and control.The post will involve working in our aseptic suite; as part of a team of experienced technicians and support workers, in preparing IV antibiotics and TPN, prioritising and organising workload under the supervision of the Production Supervisor, maintaining and developing the appropriate documentation.

  • NVQ 2 in Pharmacy or other Level 2 approved GPhC qualification for pharmacy support staff or equivalent experience
  • Supervisory qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience of supervision

  • 2 GCSE's or equivalent grades A* - C or 4-9 in English and Maths (If qualifications gained outside the UK evidence of equivalent standards must be demonstrated at interview)
  • Other healthcare qualifications
  • GCSEs in science-based or other role specific relevant subjects

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential

  • Use of information technology in the workplace or within education or voluntary sector
  • Standard keyboard skills
  • Previous pharmacy experience (hospital or community) or supervisory experience

Desirable

  • Previous experience in health or social care (if not pharmacy)
  • Experience in stock control i.e., receiving, maintaining and / or issuing stock
  • Clinical trials or research experience (Clinical trials only)
  • Use of till and / or handling money in a work environment (RSH posts only)
