An exciting opportunity has arisen within E Neuro at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS), for a band 6 ward sister/charge nurse on a 12-month fixed term/Secondment contract.

E Neuro is a 24-bed female acute neurosurgery and neurological ward. We also have admission / step-down beds for patients who are transferred from Neuro HDU. These beds accommodate all acute neurosurgical conditions, including subarachnoid haemorrhage and head injuries.

Assisting in the day-to-day management and organisation of the spinal unit as required, demonstrating clinical expertise, and acting as a role model within the Neurosciences setting.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
  • Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
  • Significant post registration experience / qualification / training, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality
  • Ward management experience
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Provide evidence of supporting / managing a range of learners in practice
  • Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical decision making and judgement
  • Commitment to the post and Care Group responsibilities
  • Commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Experience in handling adverse events and complaints
  • Appraisal skills
