Job summary

Two exciting opportunities have arisen at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust in the cardiovascular department. We are seeking a full-time screening technician with a demonstrable commitment to the Aortic Abdominal Aneurysm (AAA) Programme to undertake AAA screening across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. We are seeking dedicated, enthusiastic, and sensitive Screening Technician to undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning in the Community. No previous experience is required as training will be given to ensure high standards of scanning in accordance with National operating procedures. The training also enables the scanner to have confidence in explaining the screening programme, reassuring patients about the implications of the scan and arranging the next steps, should that be required.

This role is suitable for people from a variety of backgrounds who can undertake the mandatory accredited training, supervised scanning, and assessment. The role involves travelling across Hampshire & the Isle of Wight to run clinics and deliver AAA screening in the community. Full accredited training in AAA screening is mandatory regardless of qualification level and full training will be provided.

The candidate will undertake a Level 3 Health Screener Diploma, and ultrasound training to become an accredited AAA Screening Technician.This person will have the opportunity to be part of a hard-working dedicated team that screen men in their 65th year with the aim of preventing mortality in the community.The person will use mobile ultrasound equipment to obtain images of the aorta and communicating the results with tact and discretion to the subjects.
