Job summary
We are seeking to appoint a locum Consultant Anaesthetist to increase the provision of Anaesthetic services across our theatres and pre-assessment clinics.
The anaesthetist is required to work in different subspecialties depending on their experience. There is a need for anaesthetists to be able to cover some of major general surgery (colorectal, gynaecology, urology), hepato-biliary and upper GI surgery, ophthalmic surgery, endoscopy, head and neck surgery, vascular surgery, urology, interventional radiology, spinal surgery, orthopaedic surgery and CEPOD/Trauma work. We also cover surgical specialities at our cold site Lymington New Forest Hospital, and sessions are available there. A wide range of Anaesthetic skills are needed, therefore candidates with almost any skill set are welcome. Candidates may be asked to provide a pre-assessment clinic linked to their interests.

There is no expectation of an on-call commitment. However, we have elective weekend lists, so successful candidates are expected to undertake some lists on a Saturday or Sunday (frequency is around 10-12 days and is decided by mutual agreement). This large department offers all major specialties and there are opportunities for the successful applicant to request a wide variety of work, subject to mutual agreement with the Care Group Lead and the needs of the Trust.
