Job summary

Are you a Cancer care nurse with a good understanding of haematology?Do you want to be part of a service transformation and looking for a new challenge?An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic nurse to join our Apheresis Unit as a Band 6 Apheresis Sister, permanent staff.

We are an expanding service dedicated to developing a strong nurse led team, in an exciting specialised area. Our team is enthusiastic, innovative, well-motivated and dedicated to high standards of care. The team provides patient centred, holistic care to patients undergoing apheresis with training provided for all aspects of care. The procedures undertaken include stem cell harvest, therapeutic plasma exchange and leucodepletion, donor lymphocyte harvests and red cell exchange for sickle cell patients. The service is always evolving, and our most recent service development has included harvesting patietnts for CAR-T therapy and developing and 24-7 on call service.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

WHAT YOULL DO The Band 6 Apheresis sister is responsible for patients undergoing apheresis procedures, practicing autonomously and as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will support the coordination of the apheresis service. They will provide advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals. They will practice clinically in agreed care settings and support the Lead Nurse for apheresis regarding the overall management of the service. The post holder will work across professional; departmental and Trust boundaries as required to develop and support patient-centred seamless care with responsibility for nurse-led care within apheresis. With the Lead Nurse for Apheresis the post holder will ensure the apheresis service meets the requirements of JACIE and HTA. They will work with the Quality manager to achieve this by contribution to reviewing policies and protocols and incident reporting. Our service operates 8am-8pm Mon-Fri, 8am-4pm Saturday- Sunday, with an apheresis on call service for out of hours haematological emergencies.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR You will be competent and confident in Apheresis procedure, You will be involved in service improvement projects to develop the evolving service. You will manage a team through change, where youll need to demonstrate excellent communication, clinical decision- making, professional development and a strong commitment to developing others. You will have an understanding of how to improve and provide safe, quality care for patients and their relatives. You will provide ongoing care for Haematology and Oncology patients. IV skills including cannulation and phlebotomy. You will be able to administer SACT and supportive therapies to Haematology patients. You will become a part of the Apheresis on call service.
