Job summary
Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant post in Paediatric Intensive Care at Southampton General Hospital commencing February 2024 for 12 months. It is essential for the post-holder to have experience in paediatric cardiac surgery, renal replacement therapies and techniques of advanced ventilatory support, including the use of inhaled nitric oxide, high frequency oscillation and extracorporeal life support. It is also necessary for the post holder to have significant experience in management of severe traumatic head injuries and management of complex patients with multiple organ failure.
Southampton PICU is a 16 bedded intensive care unit delivering a comprehensive service for all sub-specialties for the geographical area covering the Wessex Region, with a total population of about 3.5 million.

You will be directly responsible to the PICU Director and onwards to the Care Group Clinical Lead. You will be expected to work collaboratively with the other PICU Consultants and the wider paediatric multiple disciplinary team. As First on Consultant you will be in overall charge of the Unit and as Second on Consultant you will have primary responsibility for the retrieval service and critical care activity outside of PICU. You will also be responsible for liaising with other paediatric units to continue to improve and develop practice and service delivery for our patients. And you will be required to participate in the training and developing of the medical staff who rotate through the Unit.
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR:
You will be a paediatric intensivist. You will have extensive practical skills, be able to work well under pressure as part of a clinical team and the wider PICU team (including the Nurses and Junior doctors) and as part of the wider paediatric team.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
