Job summary
This post is based in the Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC), University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
The Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) is a 13-bed unit, which is used flexibly for level 2 and 3 patients. It is fully integrated with the rest of the WNC, where there are five operating theatres and two interventional radiology rooms. UHS is a Major Trauma Centre, and this provides some of the caseload for Neuro ICU. WNC also supports a full range of neurological, neurosurgical and stroke services. The successful applicant will work in a team of 12 Consultants who provide 24/7 care of Neuro ICU patients.
The unit has close links with the General ICU and the Department of Neurosciences at the University of Southampton.

These posts are for Consultant delivered seven-day care on the Neuro-Intensive Care Unit. 12 individuals are required to maintain this cover with a 1 in 6 weekend frequency rota. The volume and complexity of work has grown over recent years, and 12 is considered to be the minimum number to deliver the work.
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR:
The successful candidate is required to be on the GMC Specialist Register. A CCT in ICM is highly desirable, but a CCT in Anaesthesia is also acceptable as long as the candidate can demonstrate suitable experience, interest and training in Neurocritical care.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Individuals wishing to apply must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and should be either already on or within 6 months of eligibility to be included on the specialist register of the GMC.
The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.
