Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the Cardiovascular & Thoracic care group as a Cardiac nurse practitioner at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). This is an ideal opportunity for those who want to further enhance their specialist nursing knowledge and skills within a supportive environment.

Nurse practitioners are highly skilled nurses who work as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality care to elective and emergency patients receiving cardiac procedures. Fully trained nurse practitioners work closely with the medical team undertaking some of the roles previously performed solely by junior doctors, in the care and management of patients from admission to discharge. These include skilled pre assessments of patients, planning of ongoing care and the ordering of appropriate tests.

What youll doTo work as an independent Practitioner under the supervision of the Senior Nurse Practitioner / Advanced Clinical Practitioner or Designated Medical Practitioner (DMP).

This role involves undertaking competency-based patient assessment and examination in order to formulate a management plan for specific groups of patients admitted to UHS for diagnosis and / or treatments.

The Nurse Practitioner is expected to undertake all preparatory work prior to the patient undergoing treatment or diagnosis which may include consent, request of any further investigations and to highlight any potential complications to the Advanced Clinical Practitioner or relevant medical colleague.

They will need to be adaptable and flexible and work in varied environments across organisational boundaries.
