Specialist Critical Care Physiotherapist - Organ Donation

Job summary

We have a unique and innovative opportunity for an enthusiastic Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our Neurosciences Intensive Care (NICU) Therapy Team as a 'Physiotherapist for Organ Donation' champion, on a 12-month fixed term contract. This novel post has been funded by the UHS Organ Donation Committee and will involve educating the wider NICU MDT on the 24-hour respiratory care of patients on the organ donation pathway.

NICU is a regional Neurosciences Centre serving a population of over three million, providing specialist input to patients with brain, spinal or peripheral nerve injury and illness.University Hospital Southampton is a major trauma centre and one of Europe's largest teaching hospitals. You would be part of a team led by the Band 8a Clinical Specialist and will work primarily on NICU supported by Band 7 clinicians.

This exciting post will include involvement in a service improvement project to measure the impact of this role. It will also include opportunities to learn from and work with the Specialist Nurses for Organ Donation.

This post is part of the wider Therapy services department. You will have many opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge through our in-service training. You will be part of a large department of over 260 wte Therapy staff including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy support staff.

The post holder will be expected to occasionally lead the therapy team in the absence of the Band 7s, be involved in the teaching programme, service development, student super-vision and the development of Band 2-5 therapy staff.

The UHS Therapy services department runs a 7-day service, using a rota system so weekend/BH working and active participation in the On-call out of hours unscheduled acute respiratory services will be expected.
