Job summary
The Building Maintenance Department at Southampton General Hospital requires an experienced Fabric assistant to join our dedicated team on this modern healthcare estate. To keep the essential services running 24/7 you will enjoy working on a wide range of building works Trust wide.
Previous experience in an allied industry/application is desirable although not essential. You'll be required to demonstrate experience in the building trades in the interview and with any certification short course. The core elements of the job description require good knowledge with respect to building activities.
Opportunities exist to learn new vocational skills and techniques through specialised training throughout the modern healthcare estate. In addition, we promote and support individual academic learning for future career development opportunities.

You will be undertaking pre-planned essential and reactive) repair work and general maintenance (trade-related/specific) activities primarily at the request of the customer and estates department via their designated Supervisor.
Work is generally carried out unsupervised and independently or in small teams, referring to a line manager if necessary, to resolve complex situations.
Planning work closely with other trades and disciplines to achieve versatility, flexibility and cooperation towards effective and efficient working and continually strive to reduce costs wherever possible within the full scope of all relevant legislation
What were looking for We are currently looking for a painter and decorator with NVQ 3, city and Guild or equivalent experience in performing painting and decorating operations.
We are looking for someone who will have experience in working with multi-disciplinary estates and facilities to help deliver a painting programme within reason time scales.
