Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service, Salisbury Laboratory, for Biomedical Support Worker to join our team.

The WGLS is a new integrated genomics testing service formed from the amalgamation of Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory, now WGLS (Salisbury), and Molecular Pathology at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) . The WGLS is an integral part of the Central & South Genomic Laboratory Hub, one of seveon across England.

This position will be recruited to the Salisbury Laboratory, based at Salisbury NHS Trust. There are future plan for both teams to be re-located on a single site which will be in the Southampton area once a site has been identified.

The post holder will work in the Specimen Reception within Genomics at Salisbury NHS Trust. This will involve:

To receive, sort and dispatch biological samples. To enter information on tests required and patient/sample details into the laboratory computer system. To deal with incoming telephone calls relating to patient results. To work flexible hours as determined by the requirements of the service. To undertake basic laboratory housekeeping tasks including stock inventory, cleaning, and maintaining equipment

What were looking for Good keyboard skills and a working knowledge of databases and spreadsheets will be a distinct advantage. Candidates should have good communication and interpersonal skills, be highly organised and the ability to work in a team is essential.
