Job summary

We are a large friendly team who enjoy working together to provide excellent patient care.

We are looking for a motivated individual to work with our team as a radiographic assistant practitioner (RAP) undertaking supervised radiographic imaging within a defined scope of practice whilst undertaking the University of Exeter Diagnostic Radiography Degree Apprenticeship. Successful completion of the apprenticeship degree will qualify you for State registration as a Radiographer with the Health and Care Professions Council.

You will spend your time working with the team to look after our patients whilst also developing the necessary skills to meet the practical and academic requirements of the radiography apprenticeship degree. You will spend time with us at UHS as well as block release at Exeter University.

You need to be a dynamic, proactive individual with previous experience in radiographic imaging . You need an ability to work in a team as well as independently and excellent patient care is a must.You must also be able to successfully meet the entry requirements required by the University of Exeter.

Job responsibilities

As a radiographic assistant practitioner, working within a defined limited scope of practice and under supervision, you will undertake general radiography and fluoroscopy examinations following departmental protocols to ensure high standards are met. You will also be required to undertake admin tasks such as booking patients in using the Radiology Information System as well as using the electronic request and patient transfer system, all of which require good IT skills.

Whilst working as a RAP, you will also learn and develop to undertake multiple modality imaging procedures autonomously. Academic block release, online tutorials and practical supervision will enable you to gain the skills required to successfully complete your diagnostic radiographer apprenticeship degree to gain HCPC registration.

You will work as part of a team responsible for providing an efficient service in the Radiology Department. It may be necessary to attend other Radiology Departments to gain sufficient experience in some treatments.

You need to make a commitment to study both within working hours and at home during the duration of the apprenticeship course.

You must work within the boundaries of existing competence, adhering to the departmental Radiation Safety Policy and national and local standard operating procedures/protocols
