Job summary

Microbiology offers a 24/7, 365 day clinical laboratory service to UHS, GPs in the local area and specialist tests to other hospitals throughout the UK, processing over 600,000 samples a year. The department has over 90 staff, covering bacteriology, mycology, virology, serology and parasitology, and has a well-equipped molecular facility.

You will be expected to work throughout all of sections of the department on a rotational basis. The department is fully committed to your continued professional and personal development, and the diverse training we can offer you will maximise your future employment and promotion prospects. The Laboratory is currently UKAS accredited to ISO 15189. The laboratory is accredited for training with the IBMS and HCPC.
