Job summary

Are you a registered pharmacy technician looking for a new challenge and a chance to expand your knowledge and experience working in a busy emergency dept? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic, forward-thinking team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust

We are looking to recruit an experienced band 5 pharmacy technician to work in A&E. You will work as part of the MDT using your skills as a pharmacy technician in completing a drug history, organising the discharge medicines, counsel patients on medicines, provide quick advice on medication administration. We are open to consider flexible working hours, secondment opportunities and part time hours.

You will be working in the MM team, providing a ward-based pharmacy service. When in dispensary you will be involved in the dispensing of in-patient, discharge, and controlled drug medication to many ward areas

Essential

  • Registered pharmacy technician in UK by GPhC
  • Numerate and literate e.g. GCSE in Maths and English A* to C or equivalent or IELTS test score 7 as required by GPhC if overseas candidate
  • One of the following additional pharmacy qualifications - Accredited Checking PT (ACPT) Pre and In Processing Checking (PIPC) medicine management accreditation , TAQA assessor , CIPS level 4, foundation management or equivalent demonstrable experience of day to day operational management of staff and workload.
  • Experience of staff management/operational workload supervision

Desirable

  • Completion of Practice supervisor programme or equivalent
  • Additional pharmacy qualifications e.g. Completed APTUK Foundation Framework Foundation management or other recognised management qualification or demonstrable management experience TAQA Medicines Management qualification PIPC ACPT CIPS level 4

Experience

Essential

  • Accurate dispensing of medicines (in hospital or community pharmacy or aseptics)
  • Maintaining continuous professional development portfolio
  • Dealing with customers/patients

Desirable

  • Hospital pharmacy experience
  • Stock control/ordering experience
  • Experience of JAC or similar computer labelling/ordering system
  • Experience relevant to role applied for e.g.: Providing a ward based medicines management service , Clinical Trials or research experience, Aseptic services experience
