Job summary
An exciting unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced breast surgery advanced clinical practitioner post at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Trust. The successful candidate will work alongside an existing ACP and very closely with the breast multi-disciplinary team at the Princess Anne Hospital supported by the senior managerial nursing team and consultant breast surgeons.
The ACP will deliver independent nurse led clinics within the breast surgical symptomatic service alongside medical colleagues and other members of the ACP team. The symptomatic service receives referrals from GP's and other clinical specialities, for patients with breast symptoms and manages patients with both benign or cancer diagnoses. The breast ACP team deliver independent nurse led clinics to assess family history risk for patients predominantly unaffected by breast cancer. These clinics involve a close working relationship with breast surgical, radiological and genetics teams.

WHAT YOULL DO

The Advanced Clinical Practitioner will practice autonomously as a core member of the breast surgical team. The post holder will have responsibility for undertaking the triple assessment and diagnosis of patients presenting to the symptomatic breast clinics under the guidance of the Consultant Surgeon supervising the clinic.

As an autonomous practitioner the post holder will deliver an expert level of diagnostic and therapeutic care to all patients with breast cancer and benign breast disease enabling patients to be seen and diagnosed in a timely fashion within the targets of the National Cancer Plan.

Demonstrate a high level of competence in the management of breast disease and breast conditions, be competent in breast clinical examination,nursing expertise, health assessment and clinical decision-making.

Deliver a service for those patients with a family history of breast cancer falling into the moderate risk category as per NICE (2019),assessing the breast cancer genetic and familial risk
