An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone looking to develop specialist clinical and managerial skills and progress their career within neurosurgical nursing. You will assist with the case management of mild-moderate head injury patients admitted to non-specialist wards and their safe discharge and aftercare. There will also be opportunities once established to be involved in formal and informal head injury teaching.
The Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC) is one of the largest neuroscience centres in the country providing services to a population of 3 million people. The Wessex Neurological Unit consists of: neurosurgery, Neurology, Acute Stroke, Spinal Service, Neurophysiology and Neuro OPD/ Pre-assessment.

WHAT YOULL DO:
The Band 6 Specialist Nurse is responsible for the provision of specialist nursing care for a defined patient/client group, practicing as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team. Duties will include but not restricted to:
Co-manage and in liaison with the Band 7 CNS, the patient caseload, to agreed referral and discharge criteria.
Will be supported to conduct telephone clinics to agreed criteria and support discharged patients via telephone support line and in liaison with other health care professionals/ Band 7.
Co - maintain the Outreach service database under direction of the Band 7 CNS.
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for someone who works well within a team, with excellent communication skills and also capable of working autonomously. You will receive both in house and formal training and be supported by the Head Injury Outreach CNS. This role would require you to work interdepartmentally, including with the trauma teams whilst representing neurosciences.
We are one of the leading major trauma centres in the UK and we would welcome you to join and contribute to our busy and dynamic multi-disciplinary team. Neuroscience, critical care or ED nursing experience would be desirable.
