1. Full participation in the thoracic surgery service and provision of expertise and support to other specialists as required.
2. Operating lists (VATS expertise is essential)
3. MDT meetings
4. Outpatient clinics (including peripheral clinics)
5. Ward rounds
6. Training and research
7. Administration and leadership

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

1. Someone who can work flexibly within a team
2. Proficient in minimally invasive surgical technique including anatomical lung resection
3. Experience managing thoracic trauma (mechanical rib fixation

Applicants are expected to demonstrate competence in spoken and written English. Where equivalent qualifications are offered it is essential to provide confirmation from the relevant UK College or Faculty with the application

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Individuals wishing to apply must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and should be either already on or within 6 months of eligibility to be included on the specialist register of the GMC.

The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.

Qualifications and training

Essential

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
• GMC registration with a licence to practice
• Specialist Registration with GMC

Desirable

• Higher research degree (e.g., MD/PhD)

Previous or relevant experience

Essential

• Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
• Minimum of 1 year experience at a senior registrar (ST7-8 or equivalent) level
• Experience of performing thoracic surgical operations as primary surgeon
• Experience of managing thoracic surgical patients throughout the patient pathway
• Ability to lead the thoracic surgery team.
• Able to perform surgery with advanced VATS technique
• Experience in working in a major trauma centre and able to perform open reduction and internal fixation of rib fracture

Desirable

• Previous experience at consultant level in thoracic surgery

Essential

• Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
• Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
• Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English)
