Job summary
We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Therapy Technician to join our Paediatric Therapy Team. This post includes working with children of all ages, and their families, both for inpatients and outpatients. You will work closely with the therapists and wider MDT across multiple specialities, carrying out therapeutic interventions either 1-1 or in groups. This may include gait practice, fitting orthotics, fitting and using equipment, discharge planning, gym sessions, hydrotherapy, and practice of daily living activities, such as washing and dressing. This role is largely patient facing, however also aids the patient pathways by monitoring stock, undertaking admin and data tasks, and other departmental responsibilities.
Main duties summary:o Support the qualified therapists with treatment of a wide range of patients.o Deal with patients who are acutely unwell, need help with personal care, including toileting, plus walking and undertaking everyday tasks.o Manage a simple caseload of your own as part of B4 responsibilities.o Support patients with personal care, e.g., toileting, washing, dressing and assist with chest clearance techniques.o Engage in training and developmental opportunities for yourself and others, including students.o Participate in a 7-day working pattern, and Bank Holiday working, according to roster.o Administration and data collection.

The paediatric therapy department is a 30 strong combined Paediatric Occupational and Physiotherapy Therapy team with highly experienced staff in multiple subspecialty areas benefitting from support, knowledge, and skills within the wider Therapy services department of over 260wte staff and close links with networks and community providers.

To build a good rapport with the children and their families/ carers to encourage participation and will be working with children with a wide range of presenting conditions including orthopaedic, respiratory, neurological, and developmental needs. To adapt their communication to meet the childs, family and MDT needs. Confidence to work in different environments including being water confident, physically fit and able to work with children with complex needs within different equipment and positions including on the floor, hydrotherapy and be able to manual handle accordingly. A skill set including basic IT skills to enable completion of data bases, use of electronic patient records, and electronic booking and outcoming systems.
