Job summary
We have a new and exciting vacancy in the Southampton community dietetics service in the fields of nutrition support and neurological rehabilitation. You will be working alongside a Band 7 and Band 5 dietitian to cover community hospitals and community rehabilitation teams. This is a fantastic opportunity for a band 5 dietitian looking to progress in community dietetics in a friendly and supportive team or a Band 6 wanting to work in the community.
You will be part of the wider community dietetic team which has dietitians working across Southampton & Hampshire in a range of specialities, including home enteral feeding, diabetes & PCN roles . The team have regular meetings for support and CPD, and have excellent links with the acute adult dietetic team.
UHS is a leading teaching hospital, hosting a wide range of specialist tertiary services. The department of dietetics and speech and language therapy employs over 120 staff working across adult, paediatrics and community services.

WHAT YOULL DO:
Hold a dedicated clinical caseload of nutritional support and community neurological rehabilitation patients. Visit patients in their own homes, Nursing and residential homes and cover designated hospital wards. Be a key member of the multidisciplinary teams and liaise with other health care professionals and support staff about all aspects of dietetic and nutritional management. Deliver training sessions to health and social care professionals as required. Some of these may be run virtually. Participate in service development and evaluation. Liaise with catering staff about provision of suitable hospital menus and chair local nutrition action group meetings.
We are looking for a dietitian who:
Has recent experience and a keen interest in working in nutritional support, including tube feeding, and neurological rehabilitation. Is happy to work independently and has great time management and organisational skills. Is confident in communicating in a variety of settings and with people from all backgrounds. Is able to supervise students and band 5 dietitians. Is able to travel independently across Southampton and Hampshire as you will be working across multiple sites. Is passionate about promoting good nutritional care for elderly and neurological patients of all ages.
Our service operates during core hours, Monday to Friday.
The base will be at the Royal South Hants hospital in Southampton but you will need to travel to Lymington, Romsey and Fordingbridge hospitals on a regular basis. Home visits can run across Hampshire so access to a vehicle for work purposes and a full UK driving license is required.
You will be able to work from home on occasions.
