Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our neonatal unit for 2 full time, clinical facilitators within our education team in Southampton.

We are looking to recruit highly knowledgeable, motivated and skilled neonatal nurses to support the development of staff within the unit. You will hold the neonatal Qualified in Speciality qualification and have experience in caring for complex babies requiring ventilatory / respiratory support, including high frequency oscillation, nitric oxide and cooling therapy.

As the largest neonatal unit in the South Coast we are in the process of expanding our education team to meet the clinical demands within the unit. Following our expansion plan we will be providing expert care for 43 babies including 14 ITU, 13 HDU and 16 Special Care infants. We are a level 3 neonatal intensive care unit and are a specialist surgical and cardiac centre.

Working closely with the Lead Educator, one of these clinical facilitator posts will be to support the education of non-registered staff within the unit, including pre-registration learners, education support of band 2-4 staff and OSCE training and development for international nurses. The second post is to provide preceptorship / Qualified in Speciality support and skills training to learners undertaking these education programmes.

Support and facilitate clinical learning in the neonatal unit and other local areas to identify learning opportunities which enhance the quality of care that the babies receive.

Facilitate multi-disciplinary and inter-department learning and simulation activities

Act as a resource and role model for staff on all aspects of clinical education.

What we're looking for:

  • RSCN / RN Child / RN Adult / RM registration
  • Specialist Neonatal QIS qualification
  • First level degree preferable and / or relevant neonatal experience
  • Evidence of mentor / practice assessor qualification
  • Teaching and assessing qualification desirable
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • NLS qualification
  • Experience as a band 5 neonatal QIS nurse
  • Knowledge of change management an advantage
  • Knowledge of NMC education standards
