Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Ophthalmology care group for an Associate Care Group Manager to join the ophthalmology care group management team. This is the ideal opportunity for someone looking to develop into a Care Group Manager or Senior Service Manager with the opportunity for career progression in acute hospital management.

The postholder will be joining the care group at an exciting time where we are focused on recovery, working on new opportunities to improve our services and overall experience for our patients.

This is a demanding but unique role and, we are looking for a team player who is dynamic, enthusiastic and excited to take on the challenge of working within ophthalmology, in the largest eye unit on the south coast to provide outstanding care to our patients.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Ophthalmology is based in the dedicated Eye Unit at Southampton General Hospital. We are a tertiary referral centre, receiving patients from across the South, the Channel islands and further afield for specialist eye treatments. Ophthalmology includes Eye Theatres, Eye Short Stay Unit, Eye Casualty and Eye Outpatients both at Southampton General Hospital and Lymington New Forest Hospital.

The Ophthalmology department provides the largest single specialty outpatient service and highest volume of surgery in the Trust.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

We manage our own outpatient department, eye casualty, theatres, ward beds and day case unit and deliver eye services at both UHS and Lymington.

  • The successful candidate will work with the care group management team to oversee the delivery of all pathways of care within ophthalmology.
  • You will work with multiple teams both within and outside of the care group to help facilitate delivery.
  • You will need to liaise with patients of all ages, clinicians at all levels and senior managers within the Trust.

There is the opportunity to gain senior management experience both with direct reports but also working with our wider admin teams to provide the best patient care to our patients.
