Job summary

Radiotherapy clinical trials are vital for improving patient outcomes. We are looking for an experienced therapeutic radiographer to join our small team running radiotherapy clinical trials. We strive to ensure that research is considered a treatment option for all eligible patients and work closely with clinical teams and within patients' clinical pathways to ensure that research opportunities are expanding.

We have a team of around 300 Research Nurses, AHPs, Midwives and Clinical Trials Assistants, working together across the Trust, within our award-winning teams to bring exciting research opportunities to UHS for the benefit of our patients and for the future of healthcare. The Research team is composed of multidisciplinary researchers from hospital and university backgrounds, embedded and working in collaboration with clinical services and teams, aiming to deliver a variety of studies to improve patient care and outcomes.

Your Responsibilities What youll do

This is a patient-facing role in which you will work closely with clinical oncologists and radiotherapy AdPs to manage care pathways for patients participating in clinical trials. You will be involved in the set-up, recruitment, education and monitoring of trial patients, providing care and support to both staff and patients.

The wider team is composed of researchers from hospital and university backgrounds with the aim to deliver a variety of studies to improve patient care. You will work with a wide variety of disciplines to collect and record data following patients through from diagnosis to discharge from follow-up.

  • You will be provided with training and support as you develop within your role in clinical trials.
  • You will be responsible for line managing the team and feeding back to the Cancer Research Matron.
  • You will work with other departments and the Research & Development Team to set up new trials and process amendments to open trials
  • You will work with Research Nurses to collaborate on their studies
  • You will be accountable for quality assurance within the team, ensuring all documents are up to date, incidents are managed and any Radiotherapy developments are in line with Research and vice versa.
  • You will be responsible for the radiographers overseeing a cohort of patients who you will monitor throughout their radiotherapy and into follow-up.
  • You will ensure specific radiotherapy procedures, investigations and sampling are undertaken as required by the research protocol.
  • You will provide ongoing specialist radiotherapy education and support to patients and their significant others.
  • You will be involved in the education of the wider radiotherapy team regarding trials.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Therapeutic Radiographer with significant and recent NHS experience who will work within our Radiotherapy Research Team to manage clinical trials. You will have experience working to a high standard with a wide variety of radiotherapy techniques and equipment. You will be able to confidently work independently and as part of a team. You will have experience and understand Radiotherapy Research pathways.

You will have excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and be able to communicate and synthesise complex information for patients and wider MDT members.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills and accurate record-keeping (paper and electronic)

You have excellent line management skills and are able to support and guide the team.

This is a part-time (30hrs) fixed-term contract for 12 mths or a secondment will also be considered.
