This post is for a CAMHS Liaison Clinical Specialist based within the acute hospital Emergency Departments, including Queen's Medical Centre, King's Mill Hospital and Bassetlaw Hospital. The service operates 24 hours a day, providing urgent mental health assessment and intervention for children and young people presenting in crisis. The team also provides overnight cover for the Crisis Phone Line between 8pm and 8am.
The Clinical Specialist will provide advanced clinical assessment, formulation and intervention for children and young people presenting with high-risk and complex mental health needs.
As a senior member of the team, the Band 7 Clinical Specialist will provide clinical supervision and expert consultation to colleagues within CAMHS Liaison and the wider acute hospital system. The role includes supporting complex decision-making and contributing to safeguarding strategy discussions.
The post holder will work systemically with children, young people and families, ensuring that risk assessment is integrated with comprehensive formulation. The role requires autonomous practice, advanced risk management skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multi-agency partners within a fast-paced acute setting.
Main duties of the job

The service supports young people under the age of 18 who present to hospital in mental health crisis, including those admitted following self-harm or whose presentation is of such severity that, without specialist liaison input, inpatient psychiatric admission may be required.

To provide comprehensive specialist assessments using well developed skills, including the risk assessment and management of young people who present in mental health crisis.
To work as an autonomous practitioner who is accountable for their own professional activities, providing clinically effective and where possible evidence based therapeutic interventions, utilising specialist analytical and interpretive skills for young people and their parents/ carers presenting with complex needs.

To provide liaison psychiatry assessments to young people and their families who attend our Acute Hospitals / A&E Departments experiencing distress, harm to self or other presenting highlighting concerns related to their emotional wellbeing.

To ensure documentation and care plans are comprehensive and are of the highest standard in line with Trust policy.
