HMP Morton Hall is a cat C male foreign national offender prison holding a maximum of 353.
Nursing in a custodial environment provides the perfect opportunity to offer a positive nurse led health experience to a group of patients who are usually identified as experiencing poor health outcomes.
You should be enthusiastic, motivated, patient focused and enjoy a challenge. We provide a service 24 hours 7 days a week on an internal rotation basis. The team operates in a supportive environment with a commitment to personal and professional development.
Main duties of the job
Working within HMP Morton Hall provides an exciting opportunity for all healthcare professionals. The Primary Healthcare Team provides a wide variety of care from initial assessment / screening for all new patients, clinical triage, emergency response, care of minor illness and injuries, nurse led clinics for long term conditions and health promotion. We aim to provide healthcare to offenders that is equivalent to those in the community.
The integrated healthcare service provided by the Healthcare Team at HMP Morton Hall aims to provide consistent, equitable, high quality and timely physical and mental health services to all prisoners. You will have the support and opportunity to develop your skills in a range of areas including; assessing patient conditions, triaging services and providing appropriate clinical interventions including emergency care.

We provide a Primary Care Service 24/7 and a Mental Health and Substance misuse service services.
Its the variety of this role which will provide a stimulating experience like no other, one minute you could be assisting with the delivery of a nurse led clinic, the next you may be attending an emergency response.
You will be able to work autonomously whilst always having the support of a strong team when required.
As a HCA you will be involved in supporting nurse- led clinics for health screening, phlebotomy clinics, BBV screening, ECG clinics and responding to emergency situations. You will support the qualified nursing team in all that they do bi=ut also have the opportunity to lead your own clinics.
Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.
You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.
Please note that this post does not meet the pay or skill level required for a Skilled worker visa.
Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary / skill level is below the minimum required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.
