Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join the team at John Eastwood Hospice on a fixed term contract. This is a part time post at 8PAs per week. This is a multi-faceted role with opportunity for the Consultant to lead in a number of areas, whilst working closely with the wider clinical team across both Hospice sites. Weekly clinical workload for the post will include the management of up to six inpatients in John Eastwood Hospice. Thew role will also lead the specialist in-reach into the hospital providing clinical oversight for the nurse specialists and review 3-4 patients each week. The role will also have opportunity to provide domiciliary support and will provide clinical oversight to the community nurses specailsits in the Mansfield area.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Main duties of the job

Maintenance of high quality, evidence-based, Specialist Palliative Care to patients and their families with care, compassion and dignity.

Responsibility for the day-to-day clinical management of patients including hospice, hospital and community patients.

To manage and participate in the out-of-hours on call rota for John Eastwood Hospice and provide reciprocal cover for periods of leave to Consultant colleagues.

Provide consultant level medical leadership within Specialist Palliative Care service.

Lead the development of reciprocal pathways of support between different medical specialities and a variety of patient environments.

Participate in departmental and trust clinical governance and quality improvement.

Work to achieve personal and trust objectives.

Ensure active engagement in CPD and appraisals and revalidation.

Participate in delivery of education and training both within the hospice and externally.

Contribute to educational and clinical supervision of trainee doctors.
