This is a full time (10 PA) replacement Consultant post working on a 16 bed, female, acute inpatient ward (Redwood 2), based at Highbury Hospital. This is a permanent post.

A Golden Hello of 20% of the minimum point of the National Consultant (2003) contract will be paid for this post.

The Trust delivers training as part of the North School of Psychiatry, East Midlands Healthcare Workforce Deanery. The Head of School for Health Education East Midlands is Dr Debasis Das. The Trust's Director of Medical Education is Dr Kehinde Junaid, responsible for the delivery of education to doctors at all levels.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Main duties of the job

In-patient work on Redwood 2 will be for 10 PA's (7.5 DCC and 2.5 SPA). The in-patient wards based at Highbury hospital, admit patients from all over the county of Nottinghamshire. Each ward has 16 beds. The post holder will manage 16 beds on Redwood 2 (female acute mental health ward). The ward has the option to flex up to a maximum of 20 beds though this will only be in rare occasions. If this did happen, the post holder will have 2 more beds to manage within their job role. The ward cover will be from consultant and multi-professional approved clinician colleagues from the service.

There will be junior doctors attached to the wards and will include two of either GP trainees, CT trainees or F2 trainees, and one Foundation 1 Doctor (F1). In addition, there will be the possibility of having a Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry (ST) trainee. There is also a robust junior doctor day duty system to cover wards when ward doctors not around due to various reasons.

To manage, appraise and give clinical supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Trusts personnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competences under the Modernising Medical Careers framework

To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant

To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients

To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department

To participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service
