An opportunity has arisen for an Energy and Carbon Manager to work in the Energy and Environment Department to support the delivery of the Trust's Green Plan where Net Zero targets relating to energy, water and travel are embedded.
It is a trustwide operational role delivering energy and carbon reduction initiatives which will require liaison with Estates and Facilities Operational Teams, Care Group leads and teams, other internal stakeholders, and external organisations, to ensure compliance with legislation, sector codes of practice and guidance.
The post holder will support the Senior Energy and Environmental Manager to improve the environmental culture throughout the Trust and develop a supportive and positive learning environment within the team, engaging and empowering others.
Main duties of the job
The role requires an experienced, qualified, energy, carbon, and sustainability professional to develop, implement and manage systems for all aspects of energy and carbon monitoring to ensure the Trust receives best value for money, whilst maintaining high environmental standards.
It is a trustwide operational role delivering energy and carbon reduction initiatives which will require liaison with Estates and Facilities Operational Teams, Care Group leads and teams, other internal stakeholders, and external organisations, to ensure compliance with legislation, sector codes of practice and guidance.
The post holder will assist in the implementation and maintenance of policies. procedures and strategies that will achieve, and where possible exceed national, local, and Trustwide environmental targets.
To support the delivery of the Trust's Green Plan where Net Zero targets relating to Energy, Water and Travel are embedded.
Support the Energy and Environmental Department and Trust, including healthcare professionals providing a range of mental and physical healthcare services, to deliver the NHS Net Zero carbon targets.
To support the Senior Energy and Environmental Manager to improve the environmental culture throughout the Trust and develop a supportive and positive learning environment within the team, engaging and empowering others.

Maintain and develop energy management systems to ensure reductions in building energy use and carbon emissions in line with the NHS Estates Net Zero Delivery Plan and NHS Net Zero Building Standards.
Support the implementation of the measures identified in the Trust Heat Decarbonisation Plan and any subsequent plans developed for remaining properties.
Deliver a reduction in business travel, promote sustainable travel alternatives, and support the Trust transition to electric vehicles in line with the NHS Net Zero Travel and Transport Strategy
Completion of necessary Trust, NHS and statutory returns in relation to energy and travel including but not limited to. ERIC (Estates Return Information Collection), PAM (Premises Assurance Model), Greener NHS Quarterly returns, Greener NHS Fleet Return
To collate the information required to ensure an accurate carbon footprint across the main areas of Building Energy, Water, Gas, and Travel and Transport.
Delivery and accountability for the monitoring, revision and reporting of the Our Energy, Our Water and Our Travel objectives within the Trust Green Plan.
To prepare and input all relevant building energy use information to ensure legal compliance e.g. DEC (Display Energy Certificates), TM44 (Inspection of Air Conditioning Systems), EPC (Energy Performance Certificates)
To investigate and produce an options appraisal on the current smart metering system and how this may be better utilised in the future.
To implement procedures to ensure that accurate data quality is maintained.
To assist in the delivery of energy awareness training to Trust employees.
To produce appropriate risk assessments where necessary.
To carry out the duties placed on employees by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all statutory duties appertaining to their sphere of work.
Assist the Trust and partners to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and Trust procedures and provide technical expertise relating to energy, water and carbon management.
Assist in the development of Trust policies and procedures to align with legislation and to reflect new and developing guidelines and best practice.
Assist the team with the management of financial resources for energy and carbon management.
Manage and maintain contracts for utilities (energy, gas and water), ensuring that services are purchased in a cost-effective manner and that invoices are appropriately processed to ensure that best value is achieved.
