Job summary

We offer 1 full time permanent position for a newly qualified (or soon to be) Speech & Language Therapist who is interested in starting their career working with autistic adults and adults with intellectual disabilities.

The job is based in Nottingham (Highbury Hospital) with community working in the wider area.

You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team (Community Intellectual Disability Team (CIDT)) focusing on enabling adults with neurodevelopmental conditions to live well in their community. You will have a fixed caseload, opportunities to join several innovate therapeutic projects, as well as complete your core competencies setting you up for a career in SLT and IDD services.

Nottinghamshire IDD services is undergoing transformation and we would love to welcome new colleagues who are interested in being part of the change. In return you will become part of the highly respected, passionate and quality focused Speech and Language Therapy Service for IDD and Mental Health in Nottinghamshire - who work across Youth Justice, CAMHS, IDD, Autism services, and Forensic services. You will be well supported and supervised by a Highly Specialist SLT, with many opportunities for peer support.

Main duties of the job

We have two pathways in Speech and Language Therapy: Communication and dysphagia. Within those you will:

  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary diagnostic assessments
  • Carry out individual Speech and Language Therapy assessments and produce reports and recommendations for implementing communication and 'eating & drinking' safe environments.
  • Contribute to interventions and deliver training to staff to continue your work when you are not around.
  • Work closely with carers and families.

Colleagues in the CIDTs. are instrumental in supporting people's mental health to avoid hospital admission. Your role will be part of the 'bigger picture' and you will have opportunities to work closely with colleagues in other specialist services to meet service users needs.

  • You will influence care by highlighting communication risks and reasonable adjustments as part of the MDT risk formulation process.
  • You will contribute directly to offering bespoke therapeutic interventions working directly with service users, the MDT and partners.
  • The role requires a high level of clinical and professional expertise in order that adults with speech, language and communication needs can benefit from a well co-ordinated pro-active, specialist, efficient and effective speech and language therapy service within the designated setting.
  • The service includes individual assessment, therapy and management, training, advice and liaison through a consultative approach.
  • We run CPD events including journal club and it is an opportunity for anyone who is interested in continuing their academic development once they qualify

All Speech & Language Therapy employees must hold a relevant degree in Speech and Language Therapy and be registered with RCSLT and HCPC. We also welcome applications from SLT students who are due to qualify in the next few months.

This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust. This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period. This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust. This post also includes paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during night, weekends and bank holidays
