Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual who has the enthusiasm and ability to work in a challenging but equally rewarding ICT department as a Data Centre Manager. The position will oversee daily operations, maintenance and management of two data centres and a number of comms rooms, ensuring all critical systems function optimally.
It is essential that you are a proactive, results-driven individual who can ensure our data centres and comms rooms meet the highest industry standards in terms of efficiency, reliability, performance, sustainability, and compliance.
Main duties of the job
As part of Digital Services, the Data Centre Manager will proactively manage the specification, installation, maintenance & ongoing development of the data centre physical environments and the supporting infrastructure that is required for the delivery of the Trust's core ICT Services. This will include but is not limited to:
- Power
- Cooling
- Rack-space provision
- Environmental Monitoring & Alerting
- Energy Efficiency of core ICT Facilities - measuring & improvement
The role plays a key function in maintaining strong relationship management between ICT and Estates relating to all associated activities affecting Trust Data Centres and Comms Rooms.
On a day to day basis, the role manages the logistical elements of services to be carried out by 3rd parties in all Trust data centres and comms rooms, including compliance to the schedules of planned maintenance as defined in contracts with suppliers and documented by any relevant legislation or compliance regime.

Engaging and managing external trade contractors (e.g. Electricians) in partnership with Estates/Mitie to ensure Digital Services requirements understood and met.
For new-build or newly acquired sites, provide initial scoping and specification for core ICT services, and work alongside Networks to advise and specify any structured cabling requirements.
To provide advice and guidance to project management teams in relation to ICT data centre and comms rooms, including site relocations and new sites. This will include producing high level designs and setting related outcomes.
To manage the operational relationship between ICT and both third party hosting providers and clients, as appropriate.
To establish and maintain regular communication across all key stakeholders and be a key point of contact on all data centre and comms room issues that fall within the scope of the Trusts ICT service provision.
To ensure an appropriate response to issues and alerts arising from monitoring software and systems is in place.
To define the out of hours response process for alerts and issues and how they should be responded to by the ICT Operations on-call teams.
To Project Manage the delivery of Data Centre and comms room infrastructure projects.
