Job summary
The Estates Management Team of 40 directly employed staff forms part of the Estates and Facilities Directorate within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The Team provides planned/reactive maintenance and emergency services 24/7, 365 days a year to 96 buildings across Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, and Derbyshire,and for any other sites that Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust cover under contracts.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and hardworking Painter to work as part of the Estates Maintenance Team. The post holder will form part of the existing multiskilled team responsible for the building maintenance and minor refurbishments of the Trust.
It is important that NHS buildings are well-decorated and in good repair. Hospitals, clinics and headquarters buildings are expected to be safe and pleasant places for patients, staff and visitors.Experience in painting and decorating is essential.
Main duties of the job
As a painter/painter and decorator, you could be:
- removing old or damaged paintwork or wallpaper
- repairing surfaces to be painted such as walls, window frames, fences, garden furniture etc
- plastering small areas
- estimating how much paint or wallpaper is needed
- collection of equipment and materials
- preparing surfaces
- wallpapering
You may work on existing buildings or on newly-constructed buildings. You could be redecorating small areas or working on large projects.

For small repairs, you may work alone. On larger projects you'll work in a team, alongside other estates team staff such as electricians, plumbers, bricklayers and joiners. You may have to travel between sites in an NHS vehicle or your own vehicle.
Painters need to be:
- interested in design and colour
- methodical
- able to work quickly and accurately
- physically fit for lifting, standing, bending, etc
- willing to work at heights, indoors and outside
- health and safety aware
- able to work alone or in a team
Practical skills:
- good communication skills
- attention to detail
- good manual (hand) skills
- organisational skills
- training and development
You will also be encouraged to become multiskilled. This post would be suitable for an experienced individual with a strong background in the painting and decorating trade. Good attitude, punctuality, organisational and listening skills are a key part of this role as well as the ability to work as a team player within a large team.
Full current driving license for driving Trust vehicles. You may be required to use your personal vehicle for traveling between Trust sites during the course of your working day in accordance with Trust policy/procedure no: 10.09 subject: Travel & Expenses are reimbursed. In additional to your annual salary, a payment of £3,500pa pro rata RRP will be paid.

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change.
