Job summary

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a Medical Records Clerk (Band 2) to join our busy Medical Records Department based in Yeovil. This is an important operational role providing essential support to clinical services and helping to ensure patient records are available at the right place and at the right time.

The office is based at Artillery Road Industrial Estate in Yeovil and the hours are 10am until 6pm Monday to Friday

As a Medical Records Clerk, you will play a key role in the safe and effective care of our patients by managing the creation, retrieval, tracking, filing and secure movement of medical records. You'll join a supportive team and contribute to the Trust's vision for modernising medical records and progressing towards a digital records future.

This is a practical, hands on role suited to someone who is organised, reliable and enjoys working in a fast paced environment.

Main duties of the job

  • Retrieve, prepare and distribute patient case notes in line with clinic schedules and urgent requests
  • Create new medical records and ensure no duplicate records are generated
  • File, track and return records accurately using electronic tracking systems
  • Identify missing, duplicate or damaged case notes and escalate issues appropriately
  • Answer telephone enquiries and respond to emergency record requests
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Information Governance and Records Management policies
  • Support the safe, secure and efficient running of the Medical Records Department
  • Assist with mentoring and supporting new team members as required
