Trauma and Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon (Locum Consultant)

Job summary
This is a 12 month locum post with a view to a substantive post pending planned retirement within the department. The successful applicant will be expected to work closely with the existing 22 Orthopaedic Surgeons (15 T&O and 7 spinal surgeons) to provide a comprehensive Trauma and Orthopaedic Service for the population of Somerset.
The post attracts a total of 11 PAs and includes being on call (1 in 12 weekdays and 1 in 12 for weekends) for General Orthopaedic Trauma. The post holder will be an orthopaedic surgeon with training in both trauma and have a subspecialist interest in soft tissue and arthroplasty knee surgery. We would anticipate an interest in partial knee replacements and an exposure to robotic assisted surgery. The post is predominately based and Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, but the appointee must be prepared to work flexibly off site, in alternative units such as community hospitals in Somerset, Yeovil and the Taunton Nuffield Hospital.
Main duties of the job
This is a fulltime post, the successful applicant will be expected to work closely with the existing 22 Orthopaedic Surgeons (15 T&O and 7 spinal surgeons) to provide a comprehensive Trauma and Orthopaedic Service for the population of Somerset across the whole county.
The post will be split between trauma and elective orthopaedics.
As well as general trauma the post will have a specialist interest in soft tissue and ligament reconstruction of the knee, uni, total and revision knee arthroplasty including the management of periprosthetic fractures.
We have close links to both Bristol and Plymouth medical schools. Teaching of medical students and the support of postgraduate doctors in training is an integral part of the post.
