Clinical Teaching Fellow in ENT (ST1-ST2)

The closing date is 11 April 2026

Job summary

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Bristol Clinical Teaching Fellow (CTF) in ENT, based at Musgrove Park Hospital. This ST1/2level post offers a balanced 50/50 split between clinical ENT work and undergraduate medical education for Bristol Medical School.

This role is ideally suited to doctors completing foundation training or taking a year out of specialty training who wish to develop as clinical educators while gaining valuable ENT experience. You will join an established group of 11 Clinical Teaching Fellows across multiple specialties, supported by dedicated Undergraduate Education Faculty and Medical Education teams.

The post provides excellent opportunities to develop teaching skills, complete a funded PGCert in Education (up to 4,000), participate in simulation faculty training, engage in educational research and quality improvement, and contribute to the Somerset NHS FT Annual Training Awards. You will also receive honorary status with the University of Bristol.

Main duties of the job

Educational Responsibilities (50%)

Deliver teaching to Bristol Medical School students across Years 2--5, including casebased learning, seminars, lectures, anatomy, clinical skills and simulation training.

Provide some generic non ENT teaching (e.g. pharmacology, CBL facilitation).

Develop and adapt teaching materials and approaches with senior guidance.

Identify student learning needs and ensure teaching meets defined objectives.

Provide academic support, supervise student work and offer constructive feedback, including through OSCEs, longcase assessments and WBAs (CBD, miniCEX, DOPS).

Participate in pastoral support, identifying and signposting "at risk" students.

Collaborate with and support fellow Clinical Teaching Fellows.

Develop and supervise studentselected components (SSCs) and contribute to educational projects, QI work and research.

Clinical Responsibilities (50%)

Participate in the full range of ENT activity including ward rounds, outpatient clinics, operating lists and emergency care.

Manage both adult and paediatric ENT presentations within a busy department that includes thyroid/parathyroid surgery, head and neck work, laser cases, and subspecialty clinics (voice, otology, paediatric audiology, BAHA, head & neck).

Engage in departmental audit and research with opportunities for presentation/publication.
