Base Locations: Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton) & Yeovil District Hospital

Working Pattern: Fulltime

Department: 50--60% Clinical & 40--50% Teaching

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to offer a number of exciting opportunities for Clinical Teaching Fellows (CTFs) across our hospitals in Yeovil District Hospital, Yeovil and Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton. These posts are ideal for enthusiastic junior doctors wishing to develop their clinical skills while gaining substantial experience in medical education, simulation, leadership and supporting both undergraduate and postgraduate learning.

We are recruiting to several posts with different teaching/clinical splits:

60% Clinical / 40% Undergraduate/ Postgraduate Teaching -- Musgrove Park Hospital

50% Clinical / 50% Undergraduate Teaching -- Musgrove Park Hospital

50% Clinical / 50% Undergraduate/ Postgraduate Teaching - Yeovil Hospital

These roles are well suited to doctors completing foundation training or stepping out of specialty training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have teaching duties for helping teach and develop foundation training at Musgrove Park Hospital/Yeovil Hospital, as well as support the induction and education of the International Medical Graduates. You will be part of a clinical fellow team delivering teaching, SIM, and QI/Portfolio support to the Foundation trainees.

Your duties include:

*Delivery of core teaching as part of the foundation teaching programme.

*Delivery of SIM on the foundation teaching programme.

*Choice of a project from a bank put together by the PGME Education Faculty -- you can also suggest projects

*Supporting the Foundation doctors in developing their portfolios.

*Supporting the delivery of F2 regional training days, such as the clinical skills day and acutely unwell older adult days.

*Supporting the IMG induction and delivery of training and support.

*Be available to support the other teaching fellows across both the foundation as well as the undergraduate teaching posts.

*Opportunities to be involved in leadership; supporting the Resident Doctor Forum, PGME Educational Committee etc.

*An Educational mentor will be provided from the Medical Education Faculty in addition to an Educational Supervisor for your clinical role.

All CTFs are encouraged to undertake a PG Cert in Education which is funded up to 4,000 by the Medical Education Department. A free place on the Somerset Foundation Trust Simulation Training the Trainers course is offered during August.

What You Will Do

Clinical Work (50--60%)

Participate in wardbased care within General Internal Medicine, rotating through specialties such as Respiratory, Cardiology, Neurosciences/Stroke, Older Adult Care and General Medicine.

Contribute to a 1:15 medical oncall rota (where applicable).

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including independent and supervised ward rounds, caring for unwell patients, and completing referrals.

Engage in governance, audit and quality improvement work.

Teaching Responsibilities (40--50%)

Posts will be aligned with one of the following teaching programmes:

Peninsula Medical School (Undergraduate, 40%)

Deliver tutorials, clinical skills, simulation and bedside teaching to Years 3--5.

Provide mentorship, assess student progress and support student projects.

Collaborate with teaching fellows across the region and attend monthly CTF teaching sessions.

Bristol Medical School (Undergraduate, 50%)

Deliver case based learning, seminars, anatomy teaching, skills teaching and simulation.

Provide pastoral support and assessment (OSCEs, long case, WBAs).

Develop and deliver independent teaching resources.

Foundation Teaching Programme (40%)

Teach, mentor and support Foundation trainees and International Medical Graduates.

Deliver simulation, skills teaching and support QI and portfolio development.

Contribute to F2 training days and educational programmes.

  • Full GMC Registration
