The closing date is 16 April 2026

Job summary

Are you passionate about shaping the future of community mental health care?

We're looking for a dynamic and compassionate Principal Clinical Psychologist to play a leading role in transforming how psychological support is delivered across our Adult Community Mental Health Service.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence culture and practice at a time of real innovation. Our teams are on a journey toward fully embedding a traumainformed, personcentred and collaborative approach, recognising the profound impact of people's lived experiences--service users and colleagues alike.

As the Locality Lead for Specialist Psychological Interventions (SPI), you will be at the heart of this change. You'll guide and inspire multidisciplinary colleagues, champion psychologically informed care, and shape accessible, flexible pathways that truly meet people where they are. Alongside your leadership role, you'll also work directly with individuals facing some of the most complex and enduring mental health challenges, offering highly specialist assessment, formulation and intervention.

If you're someone who leads with empathy, thrives on collaboration, and is motivated by meaningful, values based work, we'd love you to join us.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide highly specialist psychological assessments, formulations and interventions for people with complex mental health needs.
  • Offer clinical leadership, consultation and team formulation, supporting colleagues across the locality.
  • Deliver specialist clinical supervision to a range of staff groups, including trainees and developing roles (e.g., CAPs).
  • Lead on the development of a traumainformed, safe and collaborative approach to care.
  • Guide multidisciplinary teams in delivering psychologically informed interventions, risk management and care planning.
  • Contribute to service development, evaluation and quality improvement, informed by audit and evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in recruitment, training and development to grow psychological capacity within the service.
  • Work autonomously within professional, national and Trust guidelines to ensure high standards of psychological care.

At Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, we're committed to supporting our employees with a range of benefits designed to enhance your professional and personal life. We offer:

  • Flexible working options to help you balance work and life
  • NHS pension scheme for long-term financial security

  • A strong focus on career development to help you grow and achieve your potential

Additionally, you'll gain access to our Blue Light Card, unlocking exclusive discounts on shopping, dining, and leisure activities, as well as NHS-specific perks to support you both inside and outside of work.

We are proud to foster a diverse, skilled, and inclusive workforce, and we encourage applications from all backgrounds.
