Job summary

This is a full-time (1.0 WTE) teaching post delivering undergraduate medical education to Years 3, 4 and 5 students from Peninsula Medical School (PMS), University of Plymouth based in Somerset. The post holder will co-ordinate to a team of 9 PMS clinical teaching fellows and support the delivery of a high-quality clinical teaching programme across Trust and community settings.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

Lead and support a team of 9 Clinical Teaching Fellows.

Liaise with clinical teaching providers, academy administrative teams, and PMS senior faculty.

Travel to PMS sites (Plymouth and Torbay) as required.

Deliver high quality teaching, including:

  • Tutorials
  • Clinical skills teaching
  • Simulation-based sessions
  • Bedside teaching

Develop new teaching materials and learning resources.

Contribute to student assessment and provide constructive feedback.

Act as mentor and signpost students to pastoral support where needed.

Provide ad hoc bedside teaching (subject to availability).

Support SSCs (Student Selected Components) and quality improvement projects.

Contribute to improving and maintaining high standards of medical education.

Education and Professional Development

Clinical Teaching Fellows are encouraged to undertake a University of Plymouth Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Medical Education, funded by the Medical Education Department.

A funded place on the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust Simulation "Training the Trainers" course is provided.

Monthly cross-site CTF teaching and development sessions are held in Taunton, Torbay and Plymouth.
