Job summary
The Somerset Peri operative Service supports patients from the moment they begin planning for surgery through to full recovery, helping them become as fit and prepared as possible. Our pathways bring together teams across diabetes, anaemia, frailty, exercise, smoking cessation, weight management and more, always centred around what each patient needs to achieve the best surgical outcome.
As a Health Care Assistant, you'll help deliver safe, compassionate care within our peri operative clinics. You will welcome and support patients, carry out delegated assessments and checks, help prepare clinical areas, and ensure records and communications are accurate and up to date. You'll also support appointment booking and coordination, helping the service run smoothly. Working closely with registered practitioners, you'll play a vital role in ensuring patients feel reassured, informed, and ready for their surgical journey.

Main duties of the job
- Support the smooth running of peri-operative and pre-assessment clinics, welcoming patients and assisting the clinical team.
- Carry out delegated clinical tasks including observations, venepuncture, ECGs, height/weight/BMI, and routine investigations, escalating concerns to registered staff.
- Coordinate and complete peri-operative patient surveillance, ensuring checks are carried out at the right intervals and any concerns are escalated promptly.
- Communicate clearly with patients and colleagues, offering reassurance and overcoming barriers to understanding where needed.
- Book and coordinate patient appointments, using Trust digital systems to support efficient patient flow and timely surveillance.
- Maintain accurate digital records and documentation, ensuring all information is recorded clearly and in line with Trust standards.
