Safer Staffing Lead (Nursing/Midwifery & AHP Workforce)

The closing date is 31 March 2026

Job summary

Are you an inspirational senior nurse leader with a passion for safe staffing, data-driven decision-making and transforming workforce models across nursing, midwifery and AHP services? We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking Lead for Safer Staffing to join our Chief Nursing Officer Team and help shape how we deliver safe, effective, high-quality care across our Trust.

This is a highly influential senior leadership position overseeing the strategic development, implementation, and governance of safer staffing across all inpatient and relevant clinical areas. You will lead the Trust-wide programme for the Safer Nursing Care Tool (SNCT), SafeCare utilisation, acuity and dependency measurement, workforce assurance, and establishment reviews.

Working closely with senior nursing, midwifery, AHP leaders and corporate teams, you will drive improvements in staffing models, support workforce transformation, and ensure our approaches align with national safer staffing guidance and NHS England's Developing Workforce Safeguards.

Your work will directly support our commitment to patient safety, evidence-based workforce planning, and a positive professional environment for our teams.

Please note the banding is indicative and subject to job matching.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the Trust's safer staffing agenda, providing expert oversight on national policy, regulatory requirements, and workforce assurance.
  • Oversee the Safer Nursing Care Tool programme, ensuring robust processes, staff training and high-quality data collection and validation.
  • Deliver bi-annual and annual nursing and midwifery establishment reviews, and report outcomes to the Trust Board.
  • Provide strategic leadership on workforce efficiency, e-rostering governance, SafeCare optimisation, and nursing productivity.
  • Analyse complex workforce, acuity, quality and financial data to inform decision-making and support improvement.
  • Work with service groups to ensure safe daily staffing levels, escalation plans and effective deployment models.
  • Lead development of safer staffing policies, SOPs, workforce dashboards and governance frameworks.
