Job summary

We are looking for dedicated and motivated Facilities Service Assistants to join our Community Hospital team. This is an essential role where you'll help create a clean, safe and welcoming environment for our patients, visitors and colleagues.

As part of our Facilities Team, you'll work closely with the Facilities Housekeeper, Facilities Team Leader, Catering Team, Matron and wider ward teams to ensure high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and service delivery across the hospital.

This role is for 30 hours per week and will include a mixture of early and late shifts including some weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

This is a varied role that may include cleaning, catering, portering and general support duties depending on service needs. Duties include:

Cleaning & Housekeeping

  • Cleaning patient rooms, bathrooms, wards, offices and communal areas following set schedules and standards
  • Replenishing materials, monitoring toilets, and completing cleaning audits
  • Supporting infection control procedures

Catering Support

  • Assisting in the preparation and regeneration of patient meals
  • Managing food storage, stock rotation and temperature checks
  • Ensuring safe and hygienic food service, including allergen awareness
  • Supporting ward beverage runs and 24hour pantry services

Portering Duties

  • Escorting patients between wards and departments
  • Transporting equipment, specimens, linen, records, meals and more
  • Handling gas cylinders and trolleys safely
  • Carrying out curtain changes, linen distribution and basic equipment checks
