Job summary

We are seeking a Registered Mental Health Nurse (Band 5) to join our dedicated team on a 15-bedded acute mental health ward in Yeovil. You will work within a multidisciplinary team that includes Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, and medical professionals. Together, we provide compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to individual needs.

As a Registered Mental Health Nurse, you will deliver specialist care to adults experiencing severe and complex mental health crises. Your role involves rapid assessment, planning, and delivery of interventions to stabilise patients and support their recovery. This is a fast-paced environment that requires resilience, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to compassionate care.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to adults in acute mental health crisis.
  • Undertake rapid assessment, care planning, and implementation of therapeutic interventions.
  • Administer medication safely and in line with Trust policy.
  • Monitor and manage clinical risk, ensuring patient safety at all times.
  • Use de-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication to manage challenging situations.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic care.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to NMC standards.
  • Act as a keyworker for designated patients, supporting their recovery journey.
  • Supervise and support junior staff and students, promoting best practice.
