Job summary

This post offers an excellent opportunity to join the Emergency Department at Yeovil District Hospital as a Trust Fellow Doctor. The role provides broad exposure to adult and paediatric emergency medicine, including acute medical, surgical, ENT and ophthalmic presentations, all under the supervision of experienced consultants and senior clinicians.

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, admission, clerking and day to day management of patients attending the Emergency Department. They will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to high quality, patient centred care while maintaining effective communication with colleagues across the hospital.

There are permanent and fixed term positions are available. This is a fulltime, non training post with a comprehensive 15week rolling rota that includes normal days, twilight shifts and nights. The successful candidate will participate in weekly teaching, simulation training, journal clubs, and departmental audits, with opportunities to engage in research and service development. A structured induction period, including supernumerary shifts and short rotations in acute medicine, SDEC, fracture clinic and ophthalmology, supports familiarisation with the Trust and development of core competencies.

This role is ideal for doctors seeking to broaden their emergency medicine experience, develop clinical confidence and gain exposure to a wide range of acute presentations within a supportive and well structured environment.

Main duties of the job

Provide frontline clinical care in the Emergency Department, including the assessment, admission, clerking and day to day management of adult and paediatric patients across a full range of emergency presentations (medical, surgical, trauma, O&G, ENT, etc.).

Work under the supervision of Emergency Medicine Consultants and senior middle grade doctors, seeking timely senior input when required.

Participate fully in the departmental rota, including days, twilights and night shifts, contributing to safe and effective 24/7 service delivery.

Engage in departmental teaching and training, including weekly postgraduate teaching, simulation sessions, journal clubs and supervised clinical learning.

Support the education of others, including Foundation Doctors, ACP trainees, ENPs, Physician Associate trainees and medical students through bedside teaching and shared clinical practice.

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise at the time of application.
  • ALS / ACLS certification or evidence of a booked course within 3 months.
  • Evidence of completion of Foundation Year 1 and Foundation Year 2 (or equivalent).

Desirable

  • Studying towards Part 1 of MRCEM (or equivalent).
