Job summary

We are seeking an Oncology F3/IMT1 / 2 Doctor to provide medical input to the Oncology Department to enable the efficient and effective assessment and initial management of all cases. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable clinical experience in the hospital setting.

Previous experience at F1/F2 level is essential for this role. The post holder will also support the Consultants including the day to day responsibility for patients under the care of the Consultants.

The service supports the whole of the county of Somerset providing its services out of both the Beacon Centre in Musgrove and St Margarets Hospice in Yeovil, serving a catchment population of approx. 560,000.

Somerset boasts multiple areas of outstanding natural beauty including the Mendips, Quantocks, and easy access to both Exmoor and Dartmoor, contributing to quality of life rarely found elsewhere in the UK.

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust runs acute hospital services, community services, mental health and learning disability services and a quarter of Somerset's GP practices. It runs services from two acute hospitals; Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Yeovil Hospital in Yeovil, services in the community and services from the 13 community hospitals in the county, a range of mental health and learning disability services and Symphony Healthcare Services runs a quarter of GP practices in the county.

Start date: 1st April 2026 until 4th August 2026 (4 month contract)

Main duties of the job

Provide medical care and clinical services to inpatients

Encourage a holistic response to the care of patients and their families

Participate in teaching for medical students and other health care professionals

Develop Somerset oncology service in line with appropriate guidelines and frameworks

Work closely with Oncology Consultants and other team members to ensure effective care is provided to the patients

Experience
