Job summary
Join our dynamic Cancer Services team as a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Practitioner in Acute Haematology and Oncology Service and Cancer of Unknown Primary team at Musgrove park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital
This is a key role in delivering high quality, patient centred care to individuals experiencing acute cancer related conditions
You will be required to work autonomously within a specialist service, alongside multidisciplinary teams, influencing care pathways, shaping service development and leading on the implementation of national cancer care initiatives.
Main duties of the job
As a Clinical Nurse Practitioner, you will clinically assess and manage patients with acute oncological and haematological presentations, lead nurse-led discharge processes, and participate in Cancer of Unknown Primary clinics and Multidisciplinary Team Meetings
You will accept and triage referrals, carry out clinical examinations, request and interpret investigations, and deliver high-level communication with patients and colleagues
You will also contribute to teaching, supervise junior staff, support service audits, and guide service delivery improvements

Desirable
- Relevant Acute Haematology & Oncology learning at Degree of masters level
Experience
Essential
- Relevant and recent post registration experience within an acute hospital setting at Band 5, directly caring for patients with an oncology or haematological presentation.
- Knowledge of the care and management of cancer related emergencies in particular with reference to:
- Acute presentation of malignancy
- Complications of disease process or progression including malignant spinal cord compression
- Neutropenic sepsis
- Experience in assessing, planning and evaluating care
- Evidence of a good standard of literacy. English language skills
Desirable
- Previous experience working in a Haematology or Oncology area of care e.g SACT unit, AHOS, specialist nurse role.
- Sound knowledge of cancer related treatments including SACT, Radiotherapy, Immunotherapy
- Able to undertake the higher level clinical skills required for the specialist area.
