Job summary

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking passionate and dedicated Midwives to join our Maternity team within the Children, Young People and Families Services Directorate. This is an exciting opportunity for both experienced Band 6 Midwives and Newly Qualified Band 5 Midwives to contribute to the delivery of safe, equitable, and personalised maternal and neonatal care.

  • Band 6 Midwives will be offered substantive posts with flexible hours available.
  • Newly Qualified Band 5 Midwives will be offered an 18-month fixed-term contract at 30 hours per week, with full support and development opportunities

Please note: Band 6 substantive posts will be prioritised. If these hours are not fulfilled, applications from Band 5 Newly Qualified Midwives will then be considered.

Main duties of the job

As a Midwife, you will:

  • Deliver holistic care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively within acute and community settings.
  • Act as a role model and provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to junior staff and students.
  • Promote informed choice and advocate for women/birthing people.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and complex clinical situations.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to service development and quality assurance.
