Job summary
we have a really exciting opportunity to expand our matron workforce and looking to recruit a matron to the Medical Service Group.
The Matron is responsible for promoting the vision and values of Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, demonstrating these values in their leadership and support to teams, and the deliverance of services.Matrons are vital to delivering high quality care to patients and their relatives across the NHS and the wider health and care sector. They are instrumental in promoting high standards of clinical care, patient safety and experience, reducing health inequalities and promoting equality for all. They are instrumental in workforce retention and recruitment, staff education and development, compassionate, inclusive leadership and staff wellbeing.The matron's role is the cornerstone of improving the quality of patient care. They do this through visible inclusive leadership and engagement with patients and families, frontline staff and senior management teams.Matrons provide key assurance to the board, providing evidence that the organization is delivering safe care and supporting and developing staff to fulfil their roles.Matrons will line manage the ward Sisters and support them to set, maintain and monitor standards of care and where necessary, take direct action to ensure patient safety and to promote high quality care
Main duties of the job
he main duties of this role are:
Monitors Clinical Governance processes with Ward Sisters at ward level and within the Directorate to ensure local standards are set, maintained and reviewed and provide training and meeting opportunities for staff to share and compare best practice, evaluating outcomes and providing verbal and written reports to ADPC or taking action with Ward Sisters where necessary
Identifies clinical and non-clinical risk in conjunction with the Ward Sisters and participates in risk management activities, including overseeing development of local risk registers
Provide regular reports on cleanliness, infection control to the ICC committee
Works closely with Ward Sisters, to ensure standards of cleanliness meet contracted specifications, acting swiftly to rectify failing standards.
Acts with authority to resolve failure to meet standards in all areas of the patient environment, to prevent hospital acquired infection and to establish a cleanliness culture across the area, to promote nutritional standards and to ensure patients are treated with respect.
Work closely with partner organisations eg. Social Services, Acute Health service providers and Primary Care in order to provide seamless services that meet individual patients' needs;
Contributes to Trust-wide daily bed meetings in rotation with other Matrons in the service group
Provides cross cover in the absence of Matron(s)
