Job summary
We're looking for an experienced and dynamic Acute Diabetes Nurse Specialist to lead and develop our specialist nursing service at Yeovil District Hospital.
In this senior role, you'll provide expert clinical leadership, deliver high-quality, patient-centred care, and support staff through education, coaching and role modelling. You'll also take responsibility for service development, workforce planning, clinical governance and ensuring resources are used effectively.
Collaboration is at the heart of this role -- you'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams and external partners, while contributing to research, audit and continuous quality improvement in diabetes care.

Main duties of the job
You will provide expert clinical leadership for the Acute Diabetes Specialist Nursing Service, ensuring the highest standards of holistic, patient-centred care. You will lead, support, and develop the nursing team, promoting professional growth through education, supervision, and role modelling. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will manage a clinical caseload, support safe discharge planning, and act as a non-medical prescriber.
In this role, you will take responsibility for service development, clinical governance, quality improvement, and the effective use of resources, including budget management. You will contribute to strategic planning locally and nationally, influence policy, and drive innovation in diabetes care. You will also lead on the development of clinical guidelines, participate in audit and research, and act as an educational resource for staff, patients, and carers.
Collaboration will be central to your work. You will engage with internal colleagues and external stakeholders -- including Diabetes UK -- to enhance service delivery and achieve the very best outcomes for patients.
