We are looking for dynamic Registered Nurses to join our team as a clinical band 6 Hyperacute Stroke Nurse at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. We are recruiting for full time position of 37.5 hours per week and a 9/ 12 month secondment covering maternity leave.
We provide Thrombolysis and acute care for stroke patients admitted to our hospital. We passionately believe in delivering truly patient centred care and we can provide specialist services. Our multi-disciplinary team is committed to delivering high quality stroke care, including our specialist doctors, nurses and therapy staff.
The suitable candidate will be responsible for coordinating, providing rapid and effective assessment, treatment and care (including thrombolysis) to patients with a suspected stroke in the Hyper-acute bay on Dunkery ward. This will also include providing cover for the thrombolysis bleep by responding to calls from the emergency department (out of hours and sickness cover at present.) You will also provide specialist support the wider multi-disciplinary team within the hospital as stroke outreach for other departments and wards. You will also be training and educating junior members of staff and supporting them in their development.
Main duties of the job
To provide and maintain a high standard of evidence based, patient centred care. To demonstrate good interpersonal skills and to develop practical skills required within the speciality, whist reflecting the philosophy of care.
To deliver patient care on a daily basis, using the systems in place in the department for a multi-disciplinary approach to patient-centred care delivery, which builds on the philosophy of greater involvement of patients and their relatives/carers by using the Trusts patient and public involvement strategy.
Experienced post holders will also provide effective clinical and managerial leadership of the department, in the absence of the senior members of the team, which empowers staff to deliver patient- centred, evidence based nursing care
To provide and lead the clinical specialist nurse in the delivery of care within the Hyperacute bay.
Be able to carry out assessment and treatment within the agreed scope of practice within the Hyperacute bay and respond promptly to all requests for clinical stroke nurse input and support on the ward and other departments, facilitate the rapid transfer of stroke patients requiring admission to the HASU and stroke unit and implement initial stroke treatment plans, whilst providing specialist support and advice to other professionals and departments. To oversee the safe delivery of thrombolysis and post thrombolysis care including protocols for referral for neuro surgical interventions
